CID Allowed to Conduct DNA Tests on Halappa

Shimoga, May 21 (PTI) :  A local court today permitted CID to conduct DNA and voice tests on former minister H Halappa facing charges of rape and criminal intimidation.

Judicial Magistrate Ravikanth, after hearing arguments, observed that the DNA and voice tests were necessary for the investigation and allowed the CID police, probing the case, to draw blood samples from Halappa to conduct the tests.

Earlier, Halappa had refused to accept drawing of blood samples. However, Halappa's counsel Ravi Naik opposed the court's view and prayed for permission to appeal against the order in High Court. The Court has reserved judgement.

Halappa's bail application in the High Court is coming up on May 24. Halappa, under judicial custody till Monday, is facing charges of rape by his friend Venkatesh Murthy's wife Chandravathi. He was arrested on May 9.
