Udupi: Gram panchayat polls: DC bans sale, supply, storing of liquor

Udupi, Dec 18: Deputy commissioner has ordered the ban on the sale, supply and storage of liquor in gram panchayat limits where the first and second phase of gram panchayat elections will be held. The ban is being enforced to ensure that law and order is maintained.

All the liquor shops will remain closed as per the Excise Act in Udupi, Hebri, Brahmavar and Byndoor taluks from 5 pm on December 20 till 5 pm on December 22 as the first phase of gram panchayat elections will be held in those taluks on December 22.

Similarly, all the liquor outlets will remain closed in Kundapur, Karkala and Kaup taluks from 5 pm on December 25 till 5 pm on December 27 as the second phase of gram panchayat elections will be held in those taluks on December 27.
