Udupi, Dec 19: In a tragic incident, Vijay Bonaventure Furtado (44), son of Hejmady village, Kaup resident late Mark Furtado, drowned in Shabhavi river while fishing on December 18. Vijay had returned from Dubai a year ago and taken up fishing. He was the elder brother of Sunil Alwyn Furtado.
He had gone fishing as usual near Kindi dam of Shabhavi river at the intersection of Kokrani and Manampadi, Hejmady village, Kaup on December 18. Whilst fishing with a fishing net between 10.30 pm and 11.45 pm, the net accidentally coiled around him pulling him into the river. As he was unable to swim back to safety due to the net, he died of drowning in the river.
A police case under serial no 27/2020 under CRPC section 174 is registered at Padubidri police station in this connection.
