Mangaluru, Dec 25: A CPM candidate reportedly was hit by a Congress-supported activist with a wooden piece on Thursday December 24 at Ullal, here. This incident happened close on the heels of an incident in which SDPI and Congress activists fought outside the polling booth at Harekala on the gram panchayat election day.

The candidate in question, Iqbal, suffered injuries and got admitted into the hospital. Munir, a Congress activist, who has been accused of hitting Munir, also got admitted to the same hospital. It is learnt that both of them are closely related.

Iqbal was seated in a firewood depot owned by Harekala gram panchayat member, Badruddin, at Kissan Nagar when Munir came there and raked up the election issue. The two had verbal friction thereafter, following which the two fought on personal issues. After Munir waved a piece of wood at Iqbal, Iqbal suffered serious head injuries. Iqbal was then admitted into a private hospital at Deralakatte. Munir too got admitted into the same hospital. Konaje police are investigating this case.
