Sullia, Dec 26: During the just-concluded Champa Shashti festival at Kukke Lord Subrahmanya temple, cleanliness was given the topmost importance.

The temple management, which was aware in advance that huge crowds running into lacs would be visiting the temple on important days of the festival, Chowthi, Panchami, Shashti and Avabrhutha day, took a number of steps to promptly dispose of waste generated on those days.

Right from the first day till the last day of the festival, December 26, over 40 civic workers got involved with the task of keeping the town clean.

Under the supervision, guidance and suggestions of Yogish, the health inspector of the temple, more attention to keep the area from car street to Kashkitatte, parking zone, Adi Subrhamanya etc were taken. Volunteers and office bearers as well as members of various organizations conducted the work of sweeping the road and cleaning the area by pumping water from Kumaradhara to the temple. COVID awareness placards had been planted at various places including the road from the temple to Kumaradhara, Adisubrhamanya, Savari Mantapa, the parking area in which people were reminded to take precautions against the disease.

Over a hundred dust bins were placed between car street and Kashikatte and temporary toilets were placed at different places. The devotees wore masks when pulling the chariot under the watchful eyes of policemen and home guards. At the point of entry to the temple, everyone was put through thermal scanning and they were provided with sanitisers. Free masks were given to those who did not have them.

The administrative officer of the temple, Dr Yatish Ullal, said that three meetings were held before the commencement of the festival where plans were drawn to ensure that COVID rules were followed without fail. He said that all systems to maintain cleanliness were in place and that villagers, volunteers, panchayat development officers and workers fully cooperated by serving the cause of cleanliness.
