Kundapur: Punyakoti - A temple like house for cows

Daijiworld Media Network - Kundapur (SP)

Kundapur, Jan 5: A family from Harkur village in the taluk worships cows by treating them as equal to mothers. The family has now built a house in the style of a temple for the cows. The house has been aptly named 'Punyakoti'.

Jayaram Shetty, an organic farmer and civil contractor, and his wife Shyamala Shetty, have built this house. The house warming ceremony was held with all the puja and other procedures and rituals. The family brought calves to the new house in a procession. The guests who came to the house warming function performed Arati to the cows and were served with sumptuous lunch.

This 15x12 ft structure has a Kalasha (pitcher) atop. There is a platform in the front. The family has five indigenous breeds of cows. They use milk for household use and prepare butter and ghee from the remaining milk.
