Beltangady, Jan 11: An eight-year-old boy who was on a visit to the home of his grandmother who was ill, drowned in Annru rivulet in Chibidre village near Kakkinje on Sunday after his foot accidentally slipped.

The deceased was Ihan Abdulla (8), grandson of Puttaka, resident of Daddu in Thotattady village. Piuttaka is currently stationed at Chikkamagaluru. Ihan Abdulla was the son of Puttaka's daughter, Abida. He had come to Kakkinje along with his parents on Sunday morning to see his sick grandmother.

The boy, after breakfast in the morning, had accompanied the family members when they went to a nearby rivulet to wash their clothes and to take a bath. The boy who was playing at the riverbank, suddenly slipped and drowned even as the people looked on in shock. The boy's uncle, Daddu Sufi, and others immediately plunged into the rivulet and brought the boy out of water. He was taken to a private hospital at Kakkinje. From there, the boy was being taken to the hospital at Beltangady when he passed away before reaching Beltangady.

On the basis of a report received by them, Dharmasthala police have registered a case. Farooq Abdulla, father of the boy, filed the report. The boy is survived by parents, a sister, and a brother. The post-mortem of the mortal remains was performed at Beltangady community health centre's mortuary.
