Mangaluru: School of Work Roshni Nilaya spreads message of road safety through street play

Media Release

Mangaluru, Jan 25: Traffic rules are not made to keep control over us or assertion of power by authorities upon us; instead they are for our own safety and make travelling on the road safety around our society.

Road safety is something very important that has to be followed at all times to ensure the safety of not only the drivers of a vehicle but also of the passengers and pedestrians.

It is necessary to have rules for the road, but it is still more important for all of us to follow this set of rules.

On the occasion of the traffic awareness month, undergraduate students of criminology from the School of Work, Roshni Nilaya Mangaluru performed a street play in different locations of the city like the service bus stop Hampankata, central market, Lalbagh, KSRTC bus stop, Suratkal bus stop, Baikampady, Kavoor Junction, City Centre Mall, Bharat Mall, Forum Fiza Mall, Panambur Beach and Thanirbhavi Beach.

Students enacted a play on how traffic rules are violated by rash and negligent driving, not wearing seat belts, taking pictures during accidents instead of giving help to the victims, drunken driving, driving without a helmet, distraction while driving, listening to music while crossing roads, triple riding etc. The play was enacted to bring awareness among the general public about traffic rules and regulations.

The traffic rules are made in the interest of our lives but we break the rules.

While driving rash on the road, we the public do not follow the rules and indulge in activities like lane cutting, over speeding, driving without a seat belt or helmet on, riding triple pillion, crossing roads while peeping into the mobile or driving while talking or texting or listening to loud music and getting distracted. By doing such things we not only put our own life at risk, but we also put on line the future of our family and people around us on the road and their families.

In a larger context, following traffic rules is the right thing to do in our own interest and road safety rules make roads around us safer and easier to travel without being worried about travelling.

With great power comes great responsibility likewise a common commuter on the road is a great responsibility and we need to embrace the power that comes alongside it to make our roads and lives of our fellow citizens safe. It is not just the responsibility of the traffic police to reduce this menace. Hence we should join hands with the police department to reduce this problem.
