Bengaluru: Congress fields candidate for deputy speaker's election

Bengaluru, Jan 29: The Congress has decided to boycott the business advisory committee meeting of the legislature. This decision was taken at the Congress legislature party meeting conducted on Thursday January 28. The party reached this conclusion after observing that in the previous session, the legislature was not conducted as per the decisions taken by the committee. Accordingly, leader of the legislature party, Siddaramaiah, has written to the assembly speaker.

Siddaramaiah has directed the party members to be present in the house on all days in the current session and actively take part in deliberations. It is learnt that a parliamentary party meeting of the Congress will again be held on Friday.

Senior Congress leader K C Kondaiah, will be the candidate of that party for the post of the deputy chairman of the legislative council. Congress sources said that this decision was taken to see that the alliance between the BJP and the JD(S) for this election got recorded in the house proceedings.

M K Pranesh who is being fielded as a combined candidate by the BJP and the JD(S) filed his nomination. Siddaramaiah said that he is sure that conscience votes will be cast in favour of his party candidate.

It is said that chairman of the council, Prathapachandra Shetty, has decided to resign after the deputy speaker election process is completed, but the party leaders have asked him to continue on the technical ground that interim report on the unsavoury incident at the council, which has been submitted, has to be discussed.
