Mangalore, Jun 21: The guest house of the district police department is being spruced up for converting it into the office of the city commissioner. The building is undergoing several modifications and alterations for the purpose.

At present, the work of segregation of rooms and fixing of furniture are in progress. Police commissioner, Seemant Kumar Singh, has informed that the new office of the commissionerate will be inaugurated soon. He felt that the location of the office is convenient for the citizens. He added that the state government has promised to provide all the facilities and paraphernalia required by the commissionerate. “As and when need arises, newer facilities will be added. As the commissionerate needs a building to function from urgently, the guest house was chosen,” the city commissioner said.

He said that those who have been transferred to the commissionerate from various police stations will function in the new office, and those who were on deputation, will return to their respective police stations. “The personnel of Dakshina Kannada district armed reserve police (DAR) contingent have been given an option either to remain in their parent body or join the City Armed Reserve, which is being created out of the DAR, he explained. He also said that the work of posting additional employees to the commissionerate, and creation of a separate city crime branch will be taken up soon.
