Kundapur, Feb 1: Karnataka Rajyotsava awardee veteran Yakshagana artiste Vandse Narayana Ganiga (84) passed away on Monday at his Vandse residence here, after a brief illness. He has left behind his wife, three sons, a daughter, son in law, daughters in law and grandchildren.

He had received the Karnataka Rajyotsava award in 2014 for his service to art for 40 years.

He began his art career when he was just 12 years old and became popular soon. He performed female characters with ease. He used to be curious when he heard the word Yakshagana.

He has received more than 30 awards including the Yakshagana Mela award, the award for children’s group costumes, the Yakshamitre Balaga award, the district Rajyotsava award etc.
