Mangalore, Jun 22: On Monday June 21, the policemen of Suratkal station raided a house in Munchoor here, and confiscated 250 litres of illegally stored diesel worth about Rs 12,000. They also arrested two men relating to the incident.

Shodhan (30) from Munchoor, and Kishore, driver of the tanker being run on contract by Shodhan, were arrested in the operation. The policemen have also taken into possession a tanker full of diesel, belonging to Shodhan.

Reportedly, Shodhan had bagged a contract for transporting diesel from the local port to KSRTC depot in Puttur. The policemen claim that Shodhan used to pilfer diesel from the tanker during its transportation, and sell it in the market.

A reporter of a private television channel and a cameraman, who had visited Suratkal police station to collect details of the incident later, were assaulted by a few activists of Bajrang Dal, in which a camera suffered some damages. Later, convener of Bajrang Dal, Sharan Pumpwell, apologized for the incident. Reportedly, the Dal activists were angered at a news item earlier aired by the said television channel.
