Mangaluru, Feb 2: Members of Dakshina Kannada Wine Merchants Association on Tuesday February 2 staged a protest demanding the government fulfill various demands.
Speaking during the protest held in front of taluk office, president of the association Ganesh Shetty said, "The government should drop the plan of selling liquor online. They also should withdraw orders on CL-6A and CL-7 licenses to start in the villages of over 5,000 individuals on the national or state highways.”
He also said that in 2009-2010, the number of CL-7 license holders were 485, but 968 licenses increased in the span of 12 years. “Following lockdown, the business has suffered huge loss. The union has also submitted a memorandum to the chief minister as the government increased tax on liquor following lockdown affecting the business,” he said.
Louis Pinto of Wine and Spirits also spoke on the occasion.
