Mangalore, Jun 23: Fifty-seven-year old Jayaram K Alva, former president of metro-based Karnataka Sangh, passed away at his native place Kuttar, Deralakatte, on Tuesday June 22, following a cardiac arrest.
 
Alva had served the Sangh in various capacities from 1989 to 2001. It was during his term that more Kannadiga youth enrolled with the Sangh, and began to stage variety programmes bringing together the community during annual day celebrations and other occasions.
 
Alva migrated to the metro after his schooling in Mangalore in 1972. He had done his B A in Economics from a reputed college here and began working as an audit assistant with F K Modi & Co.  He began his own consultancy at Mahim (West) in 1981. 

Although he ventured into the hotel business by setting up Blue Diamond Restaurant in 1989, he continued to compose poems and literature besides organizing events with Karnataka Sangh.
 
His published Kannada works are poetry collections ‘Sakshigalu’ and ‘Nishpapi Nagaradalli Nanu Ninu’, story collection ‘Tatagata’, novels ‘Musalman’, ‘Eureka Eureka’, ‘Asey’ and ‘Arunadaha’. 

Alva was an amateur dramatist and promoter of Abhinaya Samrajya drama troupe which has won awards from the Karnataka Nataka Academy.
 
He is survived by his wife Vilasini as well as children Vijet and Sacheta.
 
Karnataka Sangh president Manohar M Kori, vice-president Bharath Kumar Polipu, honorary secretary Omdas Kannangar, honorary treasurer B G Nayak, and office-bearers of the executive committee offered condolences to his bereaved family.
