State Plans Package for Naxal Rehabilitation

Bangalore, June 23 (DHNS) : The State Government is working out a package for rehabilitation of left-wing extremists who join the mainstream of society.

The details of the package will be announced in next six months, Home Minister V S Acharya said.

Speaking to press persons in Bangalore on Tuesday, the minister said the government had adopted an effective policy on countering left-wing extremism.

“Our approach is neither subduing the naxals nor appeasing them. We have adopted a moderate way. And, our efforts have been successful. The Centre has kept the State out of the list of naxal-affected states,” he said.

The package would include programmes for reunion of women involved in the naxal activities with their family members. “The details of the package have been conveyed to the people concerned. The government is also giving thrust to improving civic amenities in the affected areas,” he said.

Acharya added that a few had given up the movement and joined the mainstream. However, he refused to divulge details of those gave up the movement.

The minister said that naxal activist Neelaguni Padmanabha was arrested by Andhra Pradesh police. He was wanted in many cases registered before 2001 in Karnataka. The government had sought his custody.
