Udupi: Electric transformer burns - Darkness covers major parts of city

Udupi, Feb 3: After the 110 kv electricity transformer at Kunjibettu burned down, major parts of the city plunged into total darkness on Tuesday February 2.

Due to technical fault, the power transformer burnt down at around 5.45 pm. Hotels, lodges, apartments, halls etc in the city suffered as lifts, pumpsets etc did not function. The Mescom officials said that power supply would resume by Tuesday midnight and saw that this promise was kept.

Areas like Chitpady, Kalsanka, Gundinbail, Bailakere, Olakadu, Missikn ?Compoundm K M Mag, Kinnimulky and Udyavara areas suffered due to severed power supply.
