Udupi, Feb 4: A stone inscription was found by Alwyn Andrade, physical education teacher of government pre-university college Hejamadi at the land belonging to Narayana Poojary, resident of Kalsanka in Udyavar.

Shruthesh Acharya, research fellow of history and geological inscriptions has opined that the inscription belongs to 7th century AD during the rule of Alupas.

This inscription which is drilled out of volcanic rock is three feet in height. It has inscriptions on both sides of the stone. There are five lines on one side and six in the other.

Most of the letters of this inscription, which is written in Kannada script and Kannada language of 7th century AD are erased. Only at the end it mentions 'Nirida Kallu'. So it is assumed that this inscription was

done in memory of some incident according to Shruthesh Acharya Moodubelle.

Social worker Ganesh Raj Saralabettu, Manjunath Acharya Palli and locals cooperated in the excavation of this inscription.
