Bengaluru, Feb 5: The Amruthahalli police have arrested Indu Chauhan Singh (45), stepmother of Siddharth Devender Singh (28), a relative of former chief minister Dharam Singh on the allegation of hiring killers to eliminate Siddharth. Indu is a resident of Hebbal here.

The accused has been taken into custody for further questioning, the police said. It is said that preliminary investigation revealed that Indu had hired killers with an eye on property.

Siddarth's father Devender Singh had two wives. He is survived by two children. Devender and Indu used to fight over the said property frequently. She reportedly used to pester her husband to transfer the property to her and her children. She also had fought with Siddharth on this issue.

Later, she planned to eliminate Siddharth in connivance with Vinod who is known to her. Shyam Sunder Reddy, who had no job and therefore was worried, was also extended lure for joining the contract killing job. Shyam had committed suicide after the murder. Some sources say that the contract was for four lac rupees and Indu had paid advance of Rs 75,000. However, others believe the contract amount to be around Rs 20 to 30 lac.
