Puttur: 44 unauthorised constructions razed to ground

Puttur, Feb 6: 44 illegal constructions that had come up at places like Narimogaru, Aryapu, Sampya etc were razed to the ground with the help of backhoes on Friday February 5. The operation was conducted by the taluk panchayat here.

A few people voluntarily vacated their buildings. Many owners of shops and houses expressed anger at the buildings being demolished without notice. Former minister, Vinay Kumar Sorake, and Shakuntala T Shetty visited the spot and took the officials to task. The police provided security during the operation.

Accusing the taluk office of undertaking eviction operation without serving notices to the owners in advance, the Congress has planned a protest cum hunger strike in front of Narimogaru gram panchayat under the leadership of Vinay Kumar Sorake and former MLA Shakuntala T Shetty on Saturday February 6.
