Mangaluru: Well-known social activist Sharada Acharya passes away at 89

Mangaluru, Feb 6: Well-known social activist Sharada Acharya passed away on Saturday February 6 at the age of 89. She was the mother of RSS Mangaluru co-convener Sunil Acharya. She was also the vice president RSS Karnataka zone.

She was a corporator in Mangaluru thrice and was the vice president for a period of nine years. She had undergone imprisonment during the declaration of Emergency in the country.

She later contested as Janata party candidate from Mangaluru in Vidhan Sabha elections in 1978. She was active in Scout activities and had shouldered the responsibility at district level. She was the treasurer of Siri Thotagarika Sangha. Besides being the corporator, she was also the director of building society.

She has left behind two sons and a daughter.
