Mumbai Customs arrest Dubai returnee for smuggling 16 gold bars worth Rs 82 lac

Mumbai, Feb 7: Customs officials at the Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport (CSMIA) in Mumbai have seized 16 gold bars worth Rs 82 lac belonging to a passenger who arrived from Dubai. The accused was arrested by the Mumbai Customs officials when he was trying to exit the airport. 

The authorities said that the Indian passenger, fearing that he would be caught left the gold bars inside the aircraft at the Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport.

Meanwhile, probe into the matter revealed that somebody from the airport was likely to remove the gold bars once the aircraft went into the domestic channel.

The total weight of recovered gold is 1863 grams. Authorities stated that the passenger who had abandoned the gold was identified before he could escape.
