Kundapur, Jun 25: Thieves entered a house belonging to Gemini Simon couple at Neergadde in Shirur in the taluk in broad daylight on Wednesday June 23 and decamped with valuables worth about three lac rupees. The couple had been away on a visit to Mangalore, and the thieves used the occasion to their benefit.

The couple lost gold ornaments worth about two lac rupees and cash kept in an almirah in their house. The couple, which lives in this house located in a deserted area, are loved and respected by the villagers. The Byndoor policemen, who visited the spot, expressed the suspicion that some local people were involved with this theft.

The thieves had turned everything in the house including flower cases upside down, besides sifting through almirahs and cupboards, in an effort to take away every piece of available valuable. The theft came to light when people from a neighbouring house visited the home to light a lamp on Wednesday night. A complaint was thereafter, registered in Byndoor police station.
