Mangalore, Jun 25:  “The government has not been giving a hoot to the sufferings of the people of Ullal, who have been severely affected by sea erosion. If the government continues to show apathy towards the sufferings of our people, we will have no other option but to organize a protest to assert our rights,” he warned, addressing a press conference organized in the city on Thursday June 24.

He accused the state cabinet of dithering in the matter of giving its nod to the project of building a submersible reef costing Rs 223 crore at Ullal by using modern technology, which is expected to give a lasting protection to the people from the problem of sea erosion. “Preliminary work is going on. But the cabinet is delaying its approval of the project,” he claimed.

He requested the people to extend their cooperation to the underground laying work that will shortly begin in Ullal. This project, costing Rs 66 crore, is in tender stage, and works will start shortly, and the people are likely to face some inconveniences during the execution of the project, he said.

He advised the Chief Minister to approach Justice Santosh Hegde, tender unconditional apologies to him and ask him to continue as the state Lokayukta. “If Yeddyurappa has genuine respect for Justice Hegde and concern towards eradicating corruption, he should accede to the Lokayukta’s demands and pave way for his continuance,” he said.

Congress leaders, Ivan D’Souza, Sadashiv Ullal, T K Sudhir, Ismail Harekala, Razia etc were present.
