Kundapur: Rape backed by promise of marriage - Case filed

Kundapur, Feb 9: A case under the provisions of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act (POCSO) was registered in the women's police station at Udupi. The incident reportedly happened at Hosmutt, Kedoor village in the taluk.

On the basis of a complaint received by the Child Helpline at Udupi, legal surveillance officer, Prabhakar Achar, and superintendent (non-institutional), Kapila, visited the home of the distressed girl. They came to know that a 27-year-old man related to the girl had inflicted sexual atrocity on her by promising to marry her.

The surveillance officer has complained to the women's police station, seeking registration of complaint under POCSO. Under the guidance of women's station police inspector, Manjappa, sub-inspector, Violet Famina, registered the complaint and took up investigation.
