Bengaluru, Feb 9: To mark the passage of the ruling BJP’s pet project of passing the anti-cow slaughter bill, which has already been passed in the lower house, in the Karnataka Legislative Council on Monday, Chief Minister B S Yediyurappa performed a special puja to a cow at his official residence of Cauvery on Tuesday.

State Home, as well as Law and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Basavaraj Bommai, Muzrai Minister Kota Srinivasa Poojary and BJP MLA B A Basavaraj, joined the Chief Minister in offering the puja.

On account of the opposition from its new-found political ally from the Opposition JD(S), the Yediyurappa ministry was unable to move the anti-cow slaughter bill in the Upper House during the last session.
However, the Yediyurappa ministry managed to get the bill passed in the Council on Monday by voice vote with the Congress party registering a strong protest and the JD(S) made a token opposition. The Congress party’s demand for a division in the House was turned down.

The bill will now be sent to Raj Bhavan for seeking the approval of Governor Vajubhai Vala, whose assent is expected to be only a formality as similar laws have been passed in most of the BJP-ruled states in the country.
