Udupi, Feb 9: “When Pramod Madhwaraj was the minister in the city and the district, he started with his uninterrupted efforts NURM buses in 51 routes without bowing to the private bus lobby. Government buses were started for daily commuters at economic rates for students, women, workers and senior citizens. The government NURM buses which stopped their services on the pretext of Covid-19 for a few months did not resume on the pretext of lack of commuters. Udupi block Congress urges the deputy commissioner to resume the NURM bus services wherever necessary as schools and colleges have reopened,” stated Congress party in a press release.

“As president of the private bus owners’ association, Kuyilady Suresh Nayak is the BJP district president. The people suspect that the Udupi MLA has bowed down to the pressure of the private bus lobby and blocked the resumption of NURM buses. The NURM bus stand constructed spending several crore of rupees was inevitably inaugurated two years after the work was completed. The NURM buses should be made to run in 51 routes in the district as before and allow daily commuters and senior citizens to travel at concessional rates. Protests with the support of local people will be held in case of failure to do so,” warned the Congress party to the deputy commissioner.
