Kadaba, Feb 10: The state high court has cancelled the bail granted by the lower court to a person accused of attacking a woman and her two-year-old daughter with acid. It has directed the police of Kadaba station to put the man back into judicial custody.

The woman had filed a petition in the high court, seeking to quash the order of the court that had granted bail to the accused. The single-judge bench of the high court presided over by Justice H P Sandesh, upheld her petition and cancelled the bail. It also directed the fifth additional district and sessions court of Dakshina Kannada district to hold the hearing at a fast pace and decide the same.

The distressed woman is the sister of the accused man's wife. It is said that the accused used to pester her for money and also tried to sexually harass her. The high court observed that attacking a helpless woman who has lost her husband and her child with acid is a serious offence. It opined that the investigating court has behaved like having lost sight of the gravity of the offence. It also observed that the court granted him bail because it knew that there is no chance of him escaping from attending the hearing, before cancelling the bail.
