Udupi: Two children rescued from child labour at Koteshwar

Udupi, Feb 12: The department of women and children development and the police department in a joint operation based on the public complaint, rescued a 14-year-old and a three-year-old child indulged in selling vegetables at a complex on Koteshwar Kodi beach road.

When the older child was asked about their current state-of-affairs, the 14-year-old teen said that their father has left them and the mother has gone to their hometown. The teen was a student of Class 7 at Koteshwar Karnataka Public school and was not attending school. The family is native of Vijayapura.

The children have sent for rehabilitation to the children welfare committee, Nittur. District children’s protection officer, Sadananda Nayak, legal observer, Prabhakar Achar, children development project officer, Shwetha, assistant children development project officer, Shobha Shetty Kundapur, Mahesh Devadiga, Suraksha social activist, Ambika, outreach worker, Sunanda, personnel from district children and protection unit and Kundapur police station took part in the operation.
