Bangalore: Court Dismisses Defamation Suit Against Lokayukta

Bangalore, Jun 29: A local court dismissed the defamation suit filed by IPS officer, Hemant Nimbalkar, against the state Lokayukta, Justice N Santosh Hegde, on Monday June 28.

The 24th city civil court, which took up the hearing, observed that the suit suffers from lack of substance. Sources said that the court decided to dismiss the suit, as the petitioner had not substantiated the case.

It may be recalled that the Lokayukta police had raided the residence of the then Belgaum superintendent of police, Hemant Nimbalkar, during March this year. Nimbalkar, a relative of Maharashtra Chief Minister, who had put in only ten years of service as an IPS officer, allegedly owned assets grossly disproportionate to his means.

Nimbalkar had later filed a defamation suit against Justice Hegde, claiming compensation of one rupee, for the loss of reputation he allegedly suffered because of statements made by the Lokayukta in a press conference convened in connection with the said raid.

Bangalore, Mar 18: IPS Officer with Karnataka Anti-Terrorism Squad, Hemant Nimbalkar gets to taste the toughness of Karnataka Lokayukta as the officials raid his house and other govt officials's house and recover crores of benami accounts.

Even though Lokayukta is yet to confirm the exact amount, reports suggest that Nimbalkar had allegedly amassed wealth worth several crores in benami land deals in Karnataka and Maharashtra.

Nimbalkar was earlier the Superintendent of Police of Belgaum.

"As per our information he has assets in Mumbai, Kohlapur and Belgaum. We have been making discrete inquiries about his assets and we had information that he had asset though not in his name. The Mumbai assets are in his wife's name and the in Kohlapur and Belgaum he has property in his name as well as third parties. Therefore after verifying and satisfying ourselves that these properties acquired by him from the money which has been illegally earned by him, we have conducted this raid," said Lokayukta Officer Santosh Hegde.

THIS IS HOW MOST OF THE IPS OFFICERS ARE IN KARNATAKA. THEY ARE FREE TO MAKE MORE MONEY NOW BECAUSE THERE IS NO VENKATACHALA OR SANTHOSH HEDGE AS LOKAYUKTHA IN THE STATE. DONT KNOW WHO WILL TAKE THAT POSITION . WANT A STRONGER PERSON TO BECOME LOKAYUKTHA TO FIGHT AGAINST CORRPTED PEOPLE LIKE NIMBALKAR
