Kasargod: Kerala polls - Dist administration, police conduct inspection at Talapady

Kasargod, Mar 13: Assembly elections will be held in Kerala on April 6. The team led by Kasargod district collector Dr Sajith Babu and SP inspected vehicles at Talapady, the border of Karnataka on Saturday. The inspections are being held to prevent transport of banned items, illegal cash and liquor.

The district collector said that the district administration and police department have begun joint inspections on the border. “Twenty checking points will be active in Kasargod in the leadership of the static surveillance team, flying squad, bomb squad, special squad and dog squad. 17 points of them are at the Karnataka border. People should cooperate in the inspections that will be held till the elections get over,” he said.

The decision is taken in the meeting held by the district collector and DSP with the district officials for fair and free elections. Senior officials from Mangaluru, Coorg, Kannur and Kasargod took part in the meeting. The inspection on the border will be compulsory. The operation will be conducted jointly by the police department, excise officials and department of revenue. It was decided in the meeting to exchange details of hard core criminals.

District collector Dr D Sajith Babu, DSP P B Rajiv, assistant excise commissioner Babu Varghese, customs commissioner Imamuddin Ahmed, income tax office Preetha Nambiar, Coorg deputy commissioner Charulatha Somal, SP, deputy excise commissioner, Kannur election division assistant deputy commissioner N Devidas, Dakshina Kannada deputy commissioner, SP, Mangaluru excise commissioner, customs commissioner, income tax official and others were present.

District collector pushes car that broke down

Dr Sajith Babu who is well known for simplicity, pushed the car that had broken down during inspection. He had asked to stop a car for inspection but the car did not start after stopping. The DC who saw the car driver struggling pushed the car along with other police officials and cooperated.
