Mangaluru: Supermarket at Ballalbagh catches fire - Loss Rs 3.5 crore

Mangaluru, Apr 16: The Fieldstar Hydermarket at Ballalbagh here was gutted in a fire which was ignited late night on Wednesday. Goods worth lacs of rupees were consumed by flames, and the concerned have estimated the loss to be around Rs 3.5 crore.

The owners had closed down the shop at 9.30 pm on Wednesday in view of curfew restrictions. The fire was first sighted at around 10.45 pm after which the people in the complex where the shop is situated alerted the fire department. Five fire tenders from Pandeshwar and Kadri fire stations arrived and undertook an operation lasting two hours at the end of which the fire was doused.

The fire by then had spread to foam ceiling of the market and stock of goods.

No reasons for the fire could be ascertained immediately even though short circuit is suspected. In a case registered in Barke police station, the concerned put the loss at Rs 3.5 crore.
