Udupi, Apr 19: “The growth of local languages can help preserve and nurture the local culture and traditions. I will provide complete cooperation for the development of the Tulu language, considered one of the greatest five languages of the Dravidian era,” said Udupi deputy commissioner G Jagadeesha.

Karnataka Tulu Sahitya Academy member Akashraj Jain gave a nameplate in the Tulu script and provided knowledge about the Tulu script to the DC. Another member Tara Umesh requested the deputy commissioner to provide an opportunity for the Tulu people as people are interested in the nameplate with Tulu script along with that of Kannada.

Tulu teacher Akshata Kulal requested on behalf of the Tulunad organization that the Tulu language should be the official language of the state and Tulu language should be recognised in Udupi. Sharath Kodavoor of Jai Tulunad organization said that more than 8,000 people speaking Tulu learned Tulu script by training and an online workshop titled ‘Tulu Lipi Kalpuga’.

Sathish Kodavoor, president of the Alumni association of Kodavoor said that there is an excellent response in the workshop on Tulu script.

Tulu Koota Udupi secretary Gangadhar Kidiyoor and Tulukoota Udupi founder member U G Devadiga submitted a request to the deputy commissioner on behalf of Tulukoota Udupi. Gangadhar Kidiyoor handed over a free copy of ‘Pingarada Bale Siri’ written in Tulu script and published by him.

Jai Tulunad script teachers Kinnu Bhandary and Swathi Suvarna were present.
