Mangaluru: Altar Server's Day celebrated at Holy Cross Church Cordel

Mangaluru, Apr 19: Altar Server’s Day was celebrated at Holy Cross Church Cordel. All the altar servers took active part both in the eucharistic celebration and cultural programme with discipline and dedication.

The celebration started with the holy eucharistic liturgy on April 18. The holy mass was concelebrated by Fr Rupesh Tauro, the assistant parish priest of St Lawrence Church, Bondel and Fr Lawrence Cutinha, assistant parish priest. The main celebrant, Fr Rupesh Tauro in his homily emphasized the patron saint of altar servers. He said that St John Berchmans dedicated his life to prayer and always served as an altar server in his childhood. It is a great opportunity to be an altar server for God and he called each of them to do it with devotion and dedication.
The liturgy was animated by the altar servers.

At 6.00 pm there was a cultural programme put up by the altar servers which commenced with a prayer song. Rayan welcomed the gathering. Ashlin D'Souza presented the report for the year. Sweedal Monis introduced the chief guest Melwyn Fernandes who congratulated the altar servers for taking part actively in all the activities and also serving.

He emphasized that the altar servers are little angels serving at the altar during the eucharistic celebration more closely. Fr Victor Machado, the parish priest presided over the programme and congratulated and thanked all the altar servers, animators and priests for making the event more successful.

He encouraged the altar servers to actively participate and not to miss any opportunity to be part of the holy eucharistic celebration and to come close to God. Ruthwick read out the names of the altar servers who received prizes for various activities and the prizes were given to the winners.

Michael D'Souza, the vice-president, Lancy Sequeira secretary of the Parish Pastoral Council, Matilda D'Souza the animator, Fr Lawrence Cutinha, Fr Shaun Rodrigues, Rayan Fernandes president of altar servers, Jayden D’Cunha vice president and Ashlin D'Souza secretary were also present on the dais.

The altar servers enthusiastically participated and put forth beautiful and well appreciated cultural programme which included dances, skit and songs. Jayden D’Souza proposed the vote of thanks. The parents of the altar servers and well-wishers participated in large numbers and wholeheartedly appreciated the programme. The event was beautifully compered by Ethan, Ashlyn, Melson and Henrita.
