Bantwal: Kambala race award winning buffalo Bolantoor Kati dies

Bantwal, Apr 20: A 28-year-old buffalo known as Bolantoor Kati owned by Bolantoor, late Gangadhar Rai in Bantwal that won several awards in Kambala races died on Sunday night. The buffalo was under rest for the last several years.

Barkur Devadas Gadiyar had raised it in Barkur. It won its first prize in the Negilu junior division Kambala. Shirva Vishwanath Prabhu had made it run. It later grew in the shed of Barkur Shantaram Shetty.

Barkur Shantaram Shetty and Devidas Gadiar together made it run. The buffalo had won series of awards before entering Hagga Kiriya division. Beluvayi Sadananda Shetty later included Kati to his group which he got in the races in Hagga Kiriya division and won several prizes.

Bolanthur Gangadhar Pai bought Kati and Matibettu pair in 2001. Ajith Kumar Jain had initially made the pair run. Ashok Kumar Jain made it run later. The buffalo had won the champion of the year award repeatedly for three years.

It ran as a pair with Manjeshwar, Udyavar, Munne, Chitrapur’s Kuti, Biliyoor and Gange later winning several prizes. Several racers had made it run. Bolanthoor Kati had also won prizes in the Kanehalage division. Its final rites were held in the presence of its fans on Monday morning. Bolanthoor Kati was felicitated during the silver jubilee of Puttur Kambala when it was 25 years old three years ago for its special achievements.
