Karkala: Woman dies at hospital - Family blames police for lack of timely action

Karkala, May 10: A woman who was admitted to Karkala government hospital for chest pain and breathing difficulties died sometime later after she was hospitalised. The family of the deceased have alleged that the lack of timely action by the police and prompt treatment at the hospital caused her death.

Manjula, a resident of Parappady, Nallur village in Karkala, had complained of chest pain on Monday, May 10 morning. The police on duty on the way to Karkala government hospital had forced the vehicle that was ferrying her to return as a lockdown was imposed. The family had later taken an alternative route to reach the hospital hoodwinking the police. However, it took some time for the hospital staff to attend to her. The family has expressed anguish that the delay caused by the police and the hospital caused her death.

Her younger sister claimed that her sister did not have a serious illness. “She complained only of chest pain and was speaking on the way. The doctor here killed my sister without providing treatment,” she said.

Police did not allow the vehicle to go after repeated requests, alleges family

“The police on duty at the check post near Bajagoli, Karkala, stopped our vehicle and asked us to return. We pleaded that we are taking Manjula to Karkala government hospital as she has chest pain and breathing problems. But the police remained indifferent and asked us to carry Manjula by a 108 ambulance if necessary. We went by inner road to the hospital thereafter. Manjula lost her life as we reached late,” said her younger sister.

Police refute claims by the family

“There is no connection between the death of Manjula and the traffic police action. Manjula’s family had shifted her directly from Bajagoli to the private hospital by an inner road. They shifted Manjula to the government hospital after two hours of treatment when her condition in the private hospital worsened. She died in the government hospital when she was undergoing Covid tests. The police department had created no hurdles for the travel,” clarified police circle inspector Sampath Kumar to the media.

Why police become so ruthless towards people in need. There are many instances we see hardcore physical actions to people and vehicles. Kindness is need of the hour wherever necessary.

On humanitarian ground even police could have called 108 to support early treatment to the patient. Any common man first try to save the life of patient so try to take the by first available means of transportation. At Vickys comments I agree that the previous ruled government was corrupt, that's why the people elected present government assuming new government would do better service. Previous government you are referring is before 2014. Present government is ruling for almost 7 years hence there is no logic in blaming previous government. If present present government cannot set right the wrong doings for previous government in 7 years, they would not be able to do it even if they rule for the next 50 years. Please accept this fact.

Isnt it weird…while the SOP’s given by the administration allows people to go to hospitals in case of emergency , the lockdown norms and blockades followed by the police is completely the opposite. Isnt it surprising that the ones posted at the blockades are unable to differentiate the need of an hour or an emergency? And in the bargain, its the people of the society who suffer at their mentally, all in the name of this lockdown

Dylan Mangalore,it is not Nazi regime ,but this Police men dont know any ABCD of corona or sufferings of Patients. They simply carry out orders .Atleast he could see womans sufferings or when they say going to hospital means he could allow .He killed her almost. And delay at hospital too added to that she didnt get oxygen at right time .Feel very very sorry.I feel this lady had nt any corona problems but real heart problems ,second they made her to walk too !It is then when Person has chest pain is poison .more stress to heart when one doesnt breath.Have to take her lifting or on stretcher.Anyway file a case on this Police for delaying not allowing to go to hospital.I am sure it might not have any action ,as they already denied it.They dont realize others pain to loose a family member.May her soul rest in peace.Heartfelt sympathy to her family.Poor man is always on loosing end.

Too much policing is also bad, some people dont have ambulence access, they use private vehicle, as per emergencies need to allow these cases. A lot of people facing difficulties whether it is buying essential things or visiting doctors or hospital. Again when lockdown gets open again virus spreads only productivity / economy is lost, millions have become poorer. That is what this depopulating communist china virus all about. To bring slowly everyone under state control. then these communist global elites slowly put their dictators in place to bring new world order.

Everyone now a days thinks of Coronavirus if someone has chest pain and shortness of breath. With her quick death most likely she died of heart attack. If she had received timely medical attention she probably would have survived.

Police should be more humane and understand the needs of the people. Be strict to those who flout covid guidelines on purpose. But pls help people in need. Please deal strictly with police who act like animals with innocent people. Suspension for a year without pay would be better.

Whether Police is telling the truth, only God knows. Also, it is stated that"She died in the government hospital when she was undergoing Covid tests." I have seen in good hospitals, from emergency room, they first try to give oxygen or put on ventilator and give medicine or injection to bring the patient to normalcy and then conduct tests. Here, it seems, till tests are over, she may have been left to the mercy of destiny. Also, Central govt said, they gave 18 crore vaccines free to states and today, we paid Rs 1250 each for vaccine at BGS Gleneagles Global hospital in Bangalore. Now a days, who is telling truth and who is lying, we do not know. Hospital has given us computer generated bill for Rs 1250 each.

Agree Congress is a satan in terms of corruption, but BJP is no saint in the matter..... As per the Corruption Index of Transparency International, India's ranking was 90 in 2004 (A B Vajpayee) which improved to 85 in 2014 (during Manmohan period) and now the ranking is one notch down to 86..... You can find the improvement during Manmohan Singh and deterioration since Modi..... Andh Bhakts would be blind to the facts.
