Kundapur: Good Samaritans ensure needy do not go hungry

Kundapur, May 22: On Saturday May 22, food distribution for the needy during lockdown entered the 25th day which is run with support from various donors and organizations.

JCI unit of Kundapur has been distributing free lunch and dinner for beggars, migrant workers, transport drivers and needy persons. The food distribution has been running since 25 days and 200 to 250 people are being given food.

During these 25 days in Kundapur and Koteshwara area, more than 5,000 people have been served food. The food consists rice, saar, sambar, pickle, vegetables, water and payasam every two days. Volunteers not only provide food, but also enquire about the health of the migrant workers and beggars. They are also briefed about hygiene and Covid-19 precautions.

On 25th day, with support from Indian Red Cross organization Kundapur, more than 210 people were given food. During the occasion JCI Kundapur president Vijaya Bhandary, founder president Hussein Haikady, area officer Prashanth Havaldar, previous president Raghavendra Charan Navada, Shreedhar Suvarna, Abhilasha, Dr Ashvathi Indian Red cross secretary, Y Sitaram Shetty, Members Ganesh Acharya, Narayana and Sitaram Nakkataya were present.

During the last 42 days, similar service has been offered. More than 9,500 people have been provided food. Ration kit, mask, gloves and other useful things have also been provided. Medicine supply from Shiroor to Hebri has also been given. During last year’s lockdown, similar service was provided to the needy.
