Karkala: Student drowns in water pool when taking bath

Karkala, Jun 17: A student, who was among a team of boys who went to have bath in the water pool drowned at Yellare near here on Wednesday June 16. The unfortunate victim of the incident was Aditya (14), son of Somanath Sherigar from Lachilgudde here.

Aditya, accompanied by his brother and friends in the neighbourhood, had undertaken fishing. Thereafter, the children, during the course of catching fish, also began to have bath there. Aditya went ahead in the water pool, not realizing that because of rain, the depth of the pool had increased manifold. He could not come back and drowned.

Aditya's friends tried to rescue him but in vain. They then rushed home and informed about the tragedy. The locals rushed to help the boy but by then the boy had breathed his last. Police personnel of Ajekar station visited the spot and conducted spot inspection.

Aditya was a ninth standard student and his younger brother was with him when the incident happened. The family of the boy is poor, with his father working for a bakery in Udupi for a living. His mother is a housewife.
