Mangaluru: SSLC centres to go up from 145 to 256

Mangaluru, Jun 17: Brisk preparations are underway in the twin districts of Udupi and Dakshina Kannada for the two-day SSLC exams being held next month. It has been decided to open 111 additional examination centres this time.

The number of centres last year in the two districts stood at 145, and there will be 256 centres this time. The number of centres has been increased as a precautionary measure against Covid-19 and to ensure that the students have examination centres nearer to their residence.

In Dakshina Kannada, the number of centres will go up to 179 from 94 while Udupi will have 77 centres as against 51 the previous year. In each examination room, only 12 students will be allowed as compared to 20 the previous year. Maximum number of students per centre was 850 last year but this time only 250 students can appear from a centre.

Block education officers are entrusted with the task of arranging vehicles for students from Kerala appearing for exams in border area centres in Karnataka.

In the past, private candidates had to appear for exams in the district headquarters but this time they can appear for the exams in the taluk headquarters.

Dakshina Kannada and Udupi deputy directors of public instructions, Malleswamy and N H Nagur, said that this time, SSLC exams will be a simple affair spread over two days. They said that the exams will be conducted duly following all precautionary measures. As many as 32,636 students will appear for the exams in Dakshina Kannada while 14,380 students from Udupi will take the examination.
