Kaup: Boat capsizes - Fisherman killed

Kaup, Jun 23: When a fisherman was engaged in traditional fishing near the estuary where the confluence of River Shambhavi and River Nandini is located at Hejamady Kody near Paudbidri, the boat he was using suddenly overturned after a huge wave hit his boat. Jayanth (51), a fisherman from Hejamady Kody Manampady lost his life in this incident. The accident occurred on Tuesday June 22.

Jayanth along with son Tarun, was undertaking fishing at the confluence on Tuesday morning when a wave rocked his boat. Jayanth fell into water along with his boat. He suffered serious injuries and died on the spot. Karunakar Kotian and Mohandas, who were in another boat, noticed the accident, jumped into water and rescued Tarun. They searched for Jayanth and found that he had already died.

Jayanth was an active member of Manampady Mogaveera Mahasabha. He has left behind wife, and two sons. A case relating to this death was registered in Padubidri police station.
