Udupi, Jun 23: General body meeting of Udupi City Municipality was held on Wednesday, June 23 at the Satyamurthy meeting hall of CMC.

Street light issue and issues related to MESCOM and the power supply corporation were raised at the meeting by the CMC members. Addressing the meeting Ramesh Kanchan, the Opposition leader said, "There are around 30 houses in my ward which comes under Alevoor subdivision. The SO of the Alevoor subdivision is very irresponsible and does not respond to consumers complaints. They keep the office phones engaged just to avoid complaints."

Krishna Rao Kodancha, a member of Chitpady ward addressing the issue related to the cutting of trees by MESCOM line man and problems faced in the locality due to the incompleted works said, "They cut the branches of trees and do not shift them. They throw the branches on the side of the road causing a hazardous situation." Supporting Kodancha Sundar J Kalmady, CMC member of Kalmady ward said, "MESCOM does not cut trees which fall on electrical poles in monsoon. If the trees are cut down the electrical poles can be saved."

Speaking at the meeting and issues related to the cutting of trees and related hazards Mohanraj, the assistant executive engineer said, "We will add the officials from forest department and Mescom to our CMC group. Whenever they do cut any tree in CMC limits, they should inform CMC, so that we can make arrangements for the disposal of the trees."

Control of the street dogs was also raised at the meeting by Opposition leaders Ramesh Kanchan and Amrutha Krishnamurthy. Raising the issue Ramesh Kanchan said, "Every year we spend lacs of rupees to control street dogs menace but there is no progress seen in this regard. During the lockdown, a large number of street dogs were seen roaming on roads. A proper plan needs to be sorted out to control the number of street dogs," he said.

Girish Anchan replying to the opposition leaders said, "The street dogs are now being fed by animal lovers of the city. Although their intent is good, they are feeding biscuits, meat for these street dogs. Instead of just feeding the dogs they can adopt some of them, which they are not ready to do. CMC should formulate a plan for this problem," he suggested.

A verbal spat arose between Opposition leader Ramesh Kanchan and Chitpady ward CMC member, Krishnarao Kodancha when the latter asked for clarification regarding proposed work to be undertaken in the Bailoor ward. He highlighted that the two proposed works had a similar title. To which Kanchan responded by stating that he had only presented the proposal and not finalised it.
