Karkala: Policemen Arrest Two Chain-snatchers

Karkala, Sep 6: The policemen, on Sunday September 5,  arrested two men, Swastik Poojary (19) from Shirtady, and Shabbir Ahmed (23) from Kedangal in Moodbidri, on the charge of snatching gold ornaments from women. The policemen said that the modus operandi of the two thieves was to lurk in deserted places between 4 pm and 6 pm, and snatching away gold ornaments worn by the women around their necks by approaching them on the two-wheelers, when there was no one around.

The policemen said that the duo had snatched away an eight gram gold chain from Bantwal and a chain weighing 15 gms from near Dana Shale here. In addition, the theives had made over ten attempts at different places including Kinnigoly and Bantwal, but failed to succeed, they claimed.

Two Hero Honda Karizma motor bikes, two mobile phones and gold ornaments have been recovered from the possession of the arrested thieves. The arrests were made by the town sub-inspector of police, Pramod Kumar, and other personnel.
