Udupi: UGC - DAE Workshop at MIT Held

Udupi, Sep 7: A two-day awareness workshop on “The Facilities of UGC-DAE-Consortium for Scientific Research” organized by the department of physics, MIT, Manipal was held at AC-Seminar Hall of the college here here on Monday September 6 and Tuesday September 7.

The workshop was sponsored by UGC-DAE-Consortium for Scientific Research- Indore Centre. The objective of the workshop was to make the scientific community to get awareness about the research facilities available at UGC-DAE-CSR- Indore Centre.

The workshop gave the participants (research scholars and faculty in universities) ideas about using the UGC-DAE-CSR-Indore Centre for their scientific research and also offered a forum for academic interaction with eminent scientists of UGC-DAE-CSR-Indore-Centre.

In the seminar there were lectures by eminent scientists of UGC-DAE-CSR- Indore-centre, Dr Ajay Gupta, Dr S K Deb, Dr V Ganesan, Dr N P Lalla, Dr A V Pimpale, Dr T Shripathi, Dr V R Reddy. About 50 delegates from within and outside the state attended the workshop.

The inaugural function was held on September 6. Dr G K Prabhu, registrar, Manipal University was the chief guest. Dr Ajay Gupta, Centre-Director, UGC-DAE-CSR, Indore was the guest of honour. Dr R S Aithal, joint director, MIT, Manipal presided.

Ambika, MSc student chanted the invocation. Dr Ashok Rao, head of the physics department welcomed the gathering.

In his inaugural address, Dr G K Prabhu gave the delegates, glimpses of Manipal University, and the activities going on there. Dr  Ajay Gupta, convenor of the workshop, explained the overview of the
workshop.

In his presidential address, Dr  R S  Aithal congratulated the physics department of MIT for conducting the workshop. He was happy to see the phenomenal growth of MIT over 50 years. He said, even though MIT is a self-financing institute, it offers free education to top-rankers. He encouraged the physics department to start the research base in scientific field at MIT-Manipal.

Prof P R Ramesh of MIT, physics department proposed the vote of thanks. Dr Y Raviprakash of MIT, physics department was was the master of ceremony.
