Daijiworld Media Network – Mangalore (SP)

Mangalore, Sep 14: Dakshina Kannada district in-charge minister, Krishna J Palemar said that the district administration will soon initiate steps to regulate price of sand. He was speaking to media men here on Monday September 13.

He held a meeting of BJP legislators in Circuit House here on Monday. MP, Nalin Kumar Kateel, MLAs, Yogish Bhat, Mallika Prasad and S Angara, Coastal Development Authority chairman, B Nagaraj Shetty, BJP district president, Padmanabha Kottary, and deputy commissioner, V Ponnuraj, were present at the meeting.

The minister noted that restrictions had been specifically imposed on sand being transported to Kerala, and reasoned that there is no justification in substantially increasing sand prices within the district, as sand is available aplenty here. “I have been receiving complaints that the sand prices have skyrocketted after global positioning systems were fitted to sand trucks. This has been hindering the house construction work of common people. Hence, a meeting will be held in the office of the district deputy commissioner on September 20 to take a suitable decision,” he revealed.

Palemar said that discussion about development works in the district was recently held in the presence of the MP, MLAs and deputy commissioner. He promised that the road repairs and asphalting will be undertaken once monsoon recedes. He added that the state government will be drawing the attention of the central government about the despicable state of the national highways here, which are under the direct supervision of the union government.
