Kundapur, Jul 28: The town municipal council (TMC) ordinary meeting on Tuesday witnessed objections to the land rate fixed by private person for purchase of drainage water processing unit near the lake, urging to the problems of staff scarcity at the municipal council, urging to bring to the notice of members during purchase of land and repairs to service roads and drainage.

The meeting was presided over by council president Veena Bhasker Mendon. Member Girish G K said that Rs 95 lac that are four times the rate fixed by the government is paid for purchase of land. “Legal case will be registered if the action is not clarified,” he said. Chandrashekar Kharvi supported him. K G Nithyananda said that the land is bought even though there is no road to the plot. Appointed member Diwaker Kaddimane said that the place was named Shivarama Karanth road 12 years ago. “So it is not right to say that there is no road,” he said.

Chief executive Gopalakrishna Shetty said that the land is bought only after clarifying in the leadership of deputy commissioner after approval by the tahsildar, AC and ADC.

Sridhar Sheregar questioned if precautions are taken to prevent stagnation of rain water as diseases spread because of stagnant water.

“There is an electricity problem in the council limits. There is scarcity of staff at Mescom also,” said Chandrashekar Kharvi. Mohandas Shenoy asked to inspect all the street lights and set them right. “Special arrangements were asked for Kodi but the work is not conducted,” said standing committee president Shekar Poojary.

“Ashfaq said that works are being denied at Mescom saying that they do not have funds. SFC package is reduced saying that development works are not taking place. Arrange special funds for the municipal council,” urged Chandrashekar Kharvi to the president.

Oath was administered to newly appointed members by the government, Pushpa Shet, Diwaker Kaddimane, Rathnaker Church Road, Prakash Kharvi, and Nagaraja Kanchan.

“Indira Canteen, constructed just three years ago, is leaking. There are suspicions on the quality of work,” said Chandrashekar Kharvi. Mohandas Shenoy asked about the estimated cost of repairs. The officials said that the building opposite the municipal council also is leaking. “Water stagnates in the basement till January,” they said.

Mohandas Shenoy said that the defects in the blue prints are the cause of failure in huge building constructions here. “The blue prints should be prepared here instead of in Bengaluru,” he said.

Municipal council president Veena Bhasker Mendon presided. Vice president Sandeep Kharvi, standing committee president Shekar Poojary and chief executive Gopalakrishna Shetty were present.
