Mangaluru, Aug 15: St Sebastian Church, Permannur, Indian Catholic Youth Movement (ICYM), celebrated the 75th Independence Day in the church premises.

The programme was presided by Fr Cyprian Pinto, director, ICYM, Permannur and parish priest. The chief guest for this programme was Naik Praveen Shetty, retired Kargil veteran, Indian Army, who is currently working at Canara Bank.

Maurice Monteiro, vice president of parish pastoral council, Basil D'Souza, Ullal nagara sabha counsellor, Sr Sevrine Fernandes, superior, Bethel Convent and animator, Deril Dsouza, animator, Venissa D'Souza, president, ICYM and Ashvia Anna Lasrado, secretary, ICYM were also present.

The programme commenced by invoking God’s blessings through a prayer song.

Naik Praveen Shetty hoisted the national flag after which in his speech he addressed the youth and encouraged them to join the armed forces or the civil services. He was then felicitated by the dignitaries with a shawl and a token of love and gratitude.

Venissa D'Souza welcomed the gathering. Ashvia Anna Lasrado rendered the vote of thanks. Anita Jasmin D'Souza compered the programme.
