Mangaluru: 75th Independence day celebrated at St Joseph Vaz Church

Mangaluru, Aug 15: India is celebrating its 75th Independence Day and Feast of Assumption of Mary on Sunday August 15. On this special day, ICYM Mudipu, parish council, parish priest, and assistant parish priest celebrated Independence Day in the church premises of St Joseph Vaz Church, Mudipu.

On this special occasion, the programme started with flag hosting by Fr Assisi Rebello, parish priest, St Joseph Vaz Church Mudipu. Fr Richard D'Souza, assistant parish priest, addressed the gathering appealing to their nationalistic spirit and urging them to take pride in being an Indian and fulfilling ones duty with responsibility.

This was followed by cleaning of the bus stand by ICYM members. Youths cleaned the surrounding, repainted, and instructed the public to maintain cleanliness by writing up the quotes on the walls of the bus stand.

Naveen D’Souza, vice president of parish council, Dr Irene Veigas, secretary of parish council, Sr Joaquina Dias, superior, Holy Family of Nazareth Convent, Santhosh Deepak, animator ICYM, were present. Ashwin D'Souza, president, ICYM, welcomed the gathering, Mishal Fernandes, ICYM secretary, delivered the vote of thanks and Mischelle compered the programme.
