Mangaluru, Aug 29: Vincent Cutinha was elected president of Rachana, Catholic Chamber of Commerce and Industry during the annual general meeting held on Sunday August 29 at the community hall of St Sebastian Church, Bendore here.
The meeting started with a prayer by Eulalia D'Souza, followed by welcome address by president Elias Sanctis.
Sanctis also briefed the gathering about various meetings and projects and the programmes held during the year. He also apologized for not being able to conduct various activities lined up due to the Covid pandemic.
A minute's silence was observed to pay homage to the departed souls of Rachana members in the previous years.
The previous term's AGM minutes were read by secretary Nelson Monteiro, while treasurer Felix Pinto read out the finance report of the previous term.
The president then invited John Monteiro, former Rachana president, who was the election officer. John Monteiro read out the names of eleven nominations for governing body for ensuing two years. He also read out a few important rules and regulations from Rachana memorandum for the benefit of the gathered members.
Members who had filed nomination met at the same hall separately to elect the office-bearers.

Newly-elected president Vincent Cutinha addressed the members with his acceptance speech. He requested members to be with the new team and support and guide. Former office-bearers and others wished the new team all success.
Newly-elected secretary Lavina Monteiro proposed the vote of thanks.
The meeting was attended by almost 35 members. Former MLA J R Lobo was present.
A resident of Kulshekar, Vincent Cutinha worked for 13 years for Souza Hatcheries, Mangaluru, and has been self-employed since 2005. He initially started with poultry and cattle feed business at Moodbidri under the name of Anupama Feeds and Farms. He then ventured into poultry industry and chicken stalls under 'Ideal Chicken' brand wholesale and retail network throughout Dakshina Kannada and Udupi districts. He served as an active member, secretary and president of Congress till 2004, as president of Catholic Sabha Cordel unit, and is a governing member of Karnataka Poultry Farmers and Breeders Association (KPFBA).
