Haveri, Aug 30: Animal husbandry minister, Prabhu Chauhan, said that plans are afoot to build a 'Pashuloka' (animal breed development and conservation centre) in a hundred acre plot in the state with an investment of Rs 1,000 crore.
Addressing the media here on Sunday August 29, Chauhan said that the above centre is aimed at promoting tourism, studying different breeds of animals, conserving such breeds and providing complete information about the animals to everyone.
"In the budget for 2021-22, one cow shelter in every district has been announced, and land has been identified in 22 districts. Each such cow shelter can look after 6,000 to 7,000 cows. The cows will be provided with food and water besides taking care of their health. Already there are 188 private registered cow shelters in Karnataka. We have been providing grants to them. We plan to start first of such cow shelters in the home district of the chief minister," he said, duly requesting the people to send their aged cattle to the cow shelters of the government.
He said that under the central government scheme, development of Nari Suvarna breed of sheep, Nandini Durga goat breed development, veterinary treatment and medical centres, distribution of male calves
to farmers under the 'Amrit Shila' scheme, development of indigenous breeds of animals etc have been announced, he stated.
Chauhan stated that steps are being taken for the effective implementation of cow slaughter prohibition law in the state. "I will visit every district and hold a meeting. Officials have to visit villages, organise Gram Sabhas and provide details to villagers. There is a need to protect Gau Matha. Now, an efficient law has been enacted. During the Bakrid, I had held discussions with all the superintendents of police and saved six to seven thousand cows from being slaughtered during Bakrid," he claimed.
