Bengaluru, Sep 24: Karnataka student Sirish Govardhan, NSS Volunteer of K S Institute of Technology, was honoured with the prestigious NSS National Award for 2019-2020.

The highest honour in the National Service Scheme was conferred by President Ram Nath Kovind at the Awards Ceremony held in New Delhi.

Sirish Govardhan, awarded for his exemplary college-level volunteering, received the award on September 24 on the occasion of NSS Day.

After a gap of six years, the state has bagged this glory from the National Service Scheme.

The award was conferred in the presence of the Union Sports and Youth Affairs Minister Anurag Singh Thakur and Union State Minister Nishit Pramanik in recognition of outstanding contributions towards voluntary community service.

Only 30 out of 40 lakh NSS volunteers are selected to be awarded with this highest honour of NSS.

Along with Sirish Govardhan, another student Bindiya L Shetty has received the honour in the Volunteer Category from Karnataka.

Sirish has been an active volunteer and blood donor, having organized and attended several Village Camps and National Integration and Leadership Camps and having been a part of the NSS State Republic Day Parade Contingent.
