Kundapur, Oct 5: “Anti-cow slaughter law which is implemented throughout Karnataka will be strictly enforced in the district of Udupi. Around 20 check posts are opened at various places in the district to prevent cow theft and slaughter. The process of stopping illegal cow transportation and cow theft is continuous. Highest numbers of cases are registered in the district and the accused who are involved in this illegal trade are arrested. Hundreds of cattle are rescued,” said Vishnuvardhan, superintendent of police (SP) of the district.
The SP was speaking at the peace meet that was called for with regards to the recent incidents of disturbance in society at the Annappaiah auditorium at Trasi on Monday, October 4.
Vishnuvardhan further said, “We have solid proof against the incidents that have taken place at Gangolli. Legal action will be taken in such a manner that innocents will not be harassed. Accused who have been involved in various anti-social acts will be arrested and legal action will be taken. Citizens have to keep faith in the police department and cooperate to maintain law and order in the society. No one should support or encourage forces that disturb communal harmony. The law needs to be respected. If anyone goes against the law, stringent action will be taken.”
DSP Srikant of Kundapur police subdivision said, “So far four cases are registered in connection with untoward incidents that have occurred at Gangolli. Leaders of both communities should show the way to maintain peace and harmony in the society. Information needs to be provided to the police department of the vested interests who resort to anti-social behaviour and prevent untoward incidents.”
Tahsildar of taluk Kiran Goraiah was present. BJP Byndoor Mandala president Deepak Kumar Shetty, Gangolli former Mandala Pradhana B Sadananda Shenoy, taluk panchayat former member Surendra Kharvi, HJV leader Vasudeva Devadiga, Abdul Mujahid, Mansoor Ibrahim Maravanthe, G Mohammed Rafiq, Abdul Basid Nadvi, Abdul Baki Nadvi and Rehan Trasi gave suggestions. Leaders of both communities were present.
Byndoor police circle inspector Santhosh Kaykini welcomed the gathering and also rendered a vote of thanks.
